Hadzabe Bushmen

A Journey to Human Origins

About the Hadzabe

The Hadzabe (or Hadza) are one of the last true hunter-gatherer tribes on the planet. Living in the dry, scrubby lands around Lake Eyasi, they have remained largely unchanged for over 10,000 years. They do not grow crops, they do not keep livestock, and they do not have permanent shelters. Instead, they live in total rhythm with the seasons, following the movements of animals and the ripening of wild fruits.

Their language, Hadzane, is an isolate, featuring unique "click" sounds that are unlike almost any other language on earth. A day with the Hadzabe is an eye-opening experience that strips away the complexities of modern life. It challenges your perceptions of "wealth" and "progress" as you witness a community that thrives through cooperation, deep environmental knowledge, and a profound sense of equality.
