Mikumi National Park

Tanzania's Most Accessible Safari Destination

About Mikumi

Mikumi is Tanzania's fourth-largest park and the most accessible from Dar es Salaam. Often compared to the Serengeti for its wide-open horizons and abundant wildlife, the park is dominated by the Mkata Floodplain. This area is a magnet for grazers and predators alike, featuring golden grasslands dotted with iconic "sausage trees" and lonely baobabs.

Because the park is bisected by a highway, it's one of the best places for a "quick safari" without sacrificing the quality of sightings. The park is framed by the beautiful Uluguru Mountains to the northeast and the Rubeho Mountains to the southeast, providing a stunning backdrop for photography.

Mikumi is famous for its massive elands (Africa's largest antelope), "tree-climbing" lions, and large elephant families. The Mkata Floodplain attracts herds of zebras, wildebeest, impala, and buffalo, which in turn draw predators like lions, leopards, and hyenas.
