About the Park
Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers who prefer rainforests to glaciers. Unlike most Tanzanian parks, Udzungwa is not a destination for traditional vehicle safaris; instead, it is an "island" of ancient forest that must be explored on foot.
The park is world-renowned for its incredible endemism. It hosts several species of primates found nowhere else on earth, including the Iringa Red Colobus and the Sanje Crested Mangabey. The terrain is steep and rugged, covered in a thick canopy that keeps the trails shaded and humid.
The reward for the climb is often a series of stunning waterfalls that plunge into crystal-clear pools, perfect for a mid-hike swim.
